Libraries have always been places of information, but today they’re so much more than books. At Grand County Library District, we focus not only on what we have—but what we do to support your goals.

As we step into 2026, many resolutions center on personal growth, career advancement, and lifelong learning. According to recent surveys, self-improvement and professional development remain top priorities for many people. Your local library is here to help you turn those resolutions into reality.

Earn your high school diploma

The Library offers an accredited Career Online High School diploma program for adults 19 and older. This program can be completed in about 18 months, opening doors to new opportunities. Scholarships are available through the library for those who qualify.

As Roxane Gonzalez, current student, explained, “Personal, work, and family events come up daily, and I am still able to make time for my classes. The flexibility of the program allows me to work on coursework when I can. I want to be a role model for my kids, and my son has made his own improvements in school, too!”

Explore career training and business skills

Thinking about a career change or starting a business? Our online resource, GALE Presents: Udemy, offers over 20,000 courses, from job training to leadership to entrepreneurship. This learning platform provides opportunities for those who want to improve work-related skills or further develop personal interests.

Director of Library Resources, Tallie Gray, shared her insights. “My favorite class in the past five to ten years has been Complete Eye Yoga. Take this course! It’s one of the many reasons I contracted with Udemy for our library patrons. I’m in the middle of the Complete Personal Finance course. I’m thrilled that it has a spreadsheet to help save, protect, and make money, along with a tax filing organizer!”

Join a writing group

If writing is your passion, attend a “Just Write It!” session at Fraser Valley Library or connect with others through the Grand County Community of Writers, which meets monthly.

According to John Marte, library staffer and long-time member, “One of our writers recently pointed out that critiquing the work of others had given them insight into improving their own writing. And the variety of feedback you get from other members of the group helps with getting your work to accomplish your purpose.”

Learn a new language

Transparent Language Online provides an effective and engaging experience for language learners looking to build their vocabulary, practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and maintain what they learn. Over 140 languages are offered, including American Sign Language, English, and Spanish. This resource is also available for Spanish speakers who wish to learn English.

Keep your mind sharp

Learning new skills throughout life isn’t just rewarding—it helps keep your brain healthy. From online classes to in-person programs, your library offers countless ways to learn, grow, and thrive.

Start the year strong. Explore the resources at your local library and make 2026 the year you achieve your goals.
