Overall Purpse of the Job

This is a full-time supervisory position responsible for maintaining & coordinating all training work at the Clarion County Jail. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Warden. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with general work instructions and established practices, procedures and precedents.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists the Jail Office Administrator with the management of the Jail when the Warden is absent.
  • Ensures Correctional Officers are appropriately allocated among shifts.
  • Directs the staff responsible for coordinating inmate programs including religious, educational, and mental health programs during incarceration and referrals upon release to the community.
  • Assist in the development of the Jail’s budget.
  • Prepares written responses of inmate grievances against Correctional Officers, staff and other complaints or violation of policy.
  • Oversees inmate disciplinary procedures/follows misconduct process.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and rules as they pertain to the jail.
  • Assists the medical staff in accounting for all medications, coordination of inmates to be seen by the medical Doctors, reports any medication errors to the Warden.
  • Coordinates and maintains medical and dental contacts to provide services to inmates and ensures that dietary requirements for inmates are provided.
  • Conduct a Continuing Education Program for the correctional officers on a regular basis.
  • Maintain Training Calendar for each trainee, Correctional Officers training files, and conducts a Continuing Education Program for the correctional officers on a regular basis.
  • Answers Correctional Officers requests for assistance.
  • Remains on call for serious conditions such as riots, fire, inmate medical attention, etc.
  • Performs Correctional Officer duties when necessary.
  • Supervises Correctional Officers and Inmate Workers during any work detail throughout the facility.
  • Responds to and handles inmate request forms/communicators.
  • Inspects and reports any maintenance problems of the Jail to the Jail Office Administrator.
  • Approves inmate visitation lists when submitted or every 30 days.
  • Orders facility maintenance/cleaning supplies following the requisition process.
  • Oversees all cleanliness, maintenance, and security within the facility and provides supply order needs when necessary.
  • Assists the Warden with sentence orders as needed, leave requests, work orders, etc.
  • Assists OIC to assign inmate housing locations and oversees daily call searches
