These Texas agencies are hiring: Department of Public Safety, Parks and Wildlife and more

The Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are currently hiring for several roles, including positions in law enforcement, administrative support, maintenance, and other areas.

Both agencies recently announced positions they’re actively recruiting for in multiple Texas cities.

Department of Public Safety

DPS posted on social media Friday advertising two roles based in Austin.

Project Architect

DPS’ Infrastructure Operations division is seeking a project architect to perform senior level architectural work. Job functions include schematic design, space planning, cost estimation, overseeing renovations and construction, as well as supervising staff who perform similar functions, according to the description. The project architect will also monitor projects’ progress, budgets and schedules while communicating with project stakeholders and reports. Salary is listed as $9,313 monthly.

Applicants must be a registered architect in Texas, have a four-year degree in architecture and have at least five years of full-time experience performing architectural or engineering work involving design and preparation of construction documents preferably in commercial construction, renovation/ maintenance of buildings.

Applications are being accepted for the role through Nov. 27, 2024.

Arrest & Control Tactics Instructor

DPS is hiring an advanced-level arrest and control tactics (ACT) instructor with supervisory responsibilities. The instructor will be responsible for planning and conducting classroom, laboratory, and/or field instruction sessions as part of the ACT training program for the development of the trooper trainees, as well as the continuing education for the Department’s commissioned officers and civilian staff, federal agents, and military personnel. Salary is listed as $6,260.28 monthly.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma as well as at least one of the following:

  • Five years of coaching combative/martial arts in the private sector and one year of regulated amateur/professional fighting experience.
  • One year of coaching combating/martial arts in the private sector with five years of regulated amateur/professional fighting experience.
  • Ten years of regulated amateur/professional fighting experience.

To qualify, applicants must also have or obtain within one year of employment a Basic Instructor Course Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and the Texas DPS ACT Instructor program with a test proficiency of 90% or higher. They must also pass and maintain the department’s physical readiness test (PRT) at 90% or higher.

Parks and Wildlife Department

State Park Police Officer Trainee

Texas State Park Police is now accepting applications for its 68th cadet class through Dec. 25, 2024. Be a part of ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for the nearly 10 million visitors who explore Texas State Parks every year.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by Oct. 1, 2025, be a U.S. citizen, have successfully completed and conferred a bachelor’s level degree from an accredited college or university by May 31, 2025, meet the minimum peace officer licensing standards outlined in chapter 217 of the TCOLE Rule Handbook as well as passing several health-related screenings and tests for job-related skills.

Cadets’ salary while attending the training academy is $51,255. After one year in the field, their salaries will increase to $65,851. State Parks employees receive full benefits with 100% employee insurance.
