Google lays off more employees, moving some job roles to India and these countries

Google is reportedly cutting more jobs. The company is said to be laying off an unspecified number of employees. According to a report in Business Insider, Google is letting go off more employees and restructuring some teams. According to the report, several teams across Google’s finance and real estate teams have been impacted by the job cuts. The report quotes two current employees, who said affected employees were informed of the cuts this week.One reportedly said that the impacted teams in finance include Google’s Treasury, Business Services and Revenue Cash Operations.
Google finance chief Ruth Porat sends email to employees on job cuts
A small percentage of the impacted roles will reportedly move to hubs that Google is said to be investing in, including India, Chicago, Atlanta and Dublin. Google’s finance chief Ruth Porat sent an email to staff saying that the restructuring includes expanding growth to Bangalore, Mexico City and Dublin, according to the Business Insider report.
Google confirms job cuts
Google has confirmed the job cuts, however, the company has not revealed the number of employees that have been asked to go. A company spokesperson said that the latest cuts are aimed to cut down on costs. The Google spokesperson added that the layoffs are not company-wide and that affected employees will be able to apply for internal roles. “As we’ve said, we’re responsibly investing in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead,” said the Google spokesperson. “To best position us for these opportunities, throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024, a number of our teams made changes to become more efficient and work better, remove layers and align their resources to their biggest product priorities. Through this, we’re simplifying our structures to give employees more opportunity to work on our most innovative and important advances and our biggest company priorities, while reducing bureaucracy and layers,” the spokesperson added.
That said, the spokesperson added that Google will relocate some jobs to locations outside the U.S., such as Ireland and India. Employees impacted by the Google layoffs will also have the opportunity to apply for other jobs within the company.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai on job cuts
Google let go of hundreds of workers across multiple teams in January including its engineering, hardware and assistant teams as the company ramps up investment and builds its artificial intelligence offerings.
Company CEO Sundar Pichai reportedly told employees at the start of the year to expect more job cuts.
