The Tri-County Council For Southern Maryland hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 26 to inaugurate the new Mobile Career Center and unveil the expanded American Job Center (AJC) in St. Mary’s County.

The new location for the St. Mary’s AJC, at 22934 Three Notch Road in California, was needed as demand for in-person services surged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Mobile Career Center is aimed at acting as a readily accessible extension of the AJC, focusing on the dissemination of information and resources related to employment and skills development.

The event featured remarks from John Hartline, executive director of Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland; Ruthy Davis, workforce director for the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland; Erin Ross, assistant secretary for the Maryland Department of Labor; and Ashley Raley, workforce operations manager for the AJC and Mobile Career Center. The event also featured the presentation of a proclamation from Scott Ostrow on behalf of the St. Mary’s County Board of County Commissioners.

The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland was formed in 1964 as a cooperative planning and development agency designed to stimulate social and economic development across Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. The organization serves as a forum for addressing region-wide issues and achieving regional goals.
