DOWNINGTOWN — The Chester County Intermediate Unit Early Head Start program celebrated a milestone achievement with the successful completion of its first-ever Early Head Start Child Care Partnership Education Summit.
The two-day event, held on Tuesday, July 22, and Wednesday, July 23, at the Educational Service Center in Downingtown, brought together childcare partners from across five counties in southeastern Pennsylvania.
The summit welcomed representatives from childcare organizations spanning Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Lancaster, and Philadelphia counties, creating an unprecedented opportunity for collaboration and knowledge sharing among Early Head Start partners throughout the region.
“This inaugural summit represents a significant step forward in our mission to strengthen early childhood education partnerships,” said Kate Wesolowski, CCIU director of comprehensive services, Early Head Start Child Care Partnership.

“By bringing together our valued partners from across five counties, we’re building stronger networks that will ultimately benefit the families and children we serve,” added Kelly Comly, CCIU director of education services, Early Head Start Child Care Partnership.
The Education Summit focused on enhancing the collaborative relationships that make the Early Head Start Child Care Partnership model so effective. Participants engaged in professional development opportunities, shared best practices, and explored innovative approaches to supporting families with young children.
A highlight of the event was an immersive exercise where educators themselves engaged in free play-based learning activities. This hands-on experience allowed the childcare professionals to better understand the importance of child-led play by experiencing it firsthand, reinforcing how unstructured play supports natural development and learning in young children.
The Early Head Start Child Care Partnership program combines the comprehensive services of Early Head Start with the convenience and accessibility of community-based childcare settings. This unique model serves infants and toddlers up to age three, providing crucial developmental support during the most critical early years.
“Events like this summit highlight the incredible partnerships we’ve built across these five counties,” noted Kencrest Executive Director Melanie Brennan. “Our goal is not only to strengthen existing relationships but also to raise awareness about our program so that we can reach and support even more families who could benefit from these services.”
